I understand the need to do something short-term, but the 1/4 mile is no longer a drag strip. Everything drag racing is based on that 1,320 feet and always has been. That shouldn't go away for good. I think tracks without the immediate ability to lengthen shut-down areas need to look at relocating. Every track can widen to make things safer, but the real issue is length. The venues need to accommodate the sport and the technology that makes it more exciting all the time. The teams spend millions trying to go faster - the tracks need to spend millions if they want to continue to host events. Limiting speed isn't an option as it's been in hillbilly racing, because drag racing is all about going as fast as you can go. There is no three hours of monotonous ovals and tire changes to sort out who's best at turning left. That's my take on it. What's yours? I'm very interested to know how others feel about it.What are your thoughts on the new 1,000 foot rule for fuel cars?HATE IT!!!! If a track is too short for a safe shut down then either boot it from the schedule until it's fixed or hold IHRA events there. I get the safety idea but,we have 24 events on the schedule (some held twice at the same track) and I would rather see a shorter schedule and get rid of old substandard tracks like Englishtown, even if I have to drive further to an event. It has hurt attendence-look at the empty stands at Indy this last weekend, Drag racing is 1320 feet period.Go to the NHRA museum and it's been that way since the 50's when Wally Parks started the NHRA. I go to at least 3 events at year: Reading, Norwalk and one other- Vegas this year and I will not be going to any others as long as this crap contiunes. How would people feel if you shortened the football field to 70 yards instead of 100 and still charged the same price? What are your thoughts on the new 1,000 foot rule for fuel cars? Not true, there are a lot of drag strips that only run 1/8th mile. Pro level runs the 1/4. I prefer 1/4 myself.
Some of the older tracks have no option to lengthen the shutdown area. Developments around have restricted them. Relocation might sound good on paper, please remember it takes money, zoning boards and many things we have no clue about to get the building of a drag strip approved.
And there is history at some of these locations that I would hate to see the NHRA abandon as NASCAR has to what has made their sport so popular. Could there really be a NHRA season if Pomona was not on the schedule? Or Labor Day at Indy?
Sure speed can be restricted other ways. Changing to a lower octane fuel that burns slower. Smaller cylinders/displacement. Pro Street puts on a great show at the slower speeds...Top Fuel could too. What are your thoughts on the new 1,000 foot rule for fuel cars? What's the difference from the fan's perspective? You watch them launch and go by and then have to wait for the lights to know who won a close one. This doesn't change the part of the race the fans see one bit and they are still hitting 300 so how does it hurt anything? If it helps protect the drivers, then I think it's great. What are your thoughts on the new 1,000 foot rule for fuel cars? The cars are just going to fast. Wally Parks himself even said that the cars need to race a shorter distance because of the speed.
Sportsman cars won't have to race 1000'. kinda like they don't now!!What are your thoughts on the new 1,000 foot rule for fuel cars?I hate the idea of having topfuel and funny cars in the NHRA running only 1,000 feet, if you want to make it safer you need to make the shutdown area longer, I have completely quit watching it unitl they do it the right way, those drivers know what they are doing when they strap into those machines, they do it partly for the fans and partly for the money, ok maybe mostly for the money but I loved it, i usedot love it, now it sucks, they need to fix the length of the track not the length of the race. What are your thoughts on the new 1,000 foot rule for fuel cars?Better late than never. You cant' tell the difference. !/8 mile would yield the same winners, and might cost a little less too, fans could see more also.I don't need 300mph, and you don't either, unless you just go to watch for fatal accidents
