when i was in stationed in germany in 1984,they had the toughest driving test in the world.it should be that way here in the u.s..first of all,at that time you had to be smart enough to know how to drive a manual transmission car.this alone would cut alot of dummies out of the picture.second,you had to be able to change a flat tire by yourself.i love this law,you cant change a flat,you dont drive,period.third,back then a liscence cost 2,000marks,this cuts even more boogers out of the equation.fourth,the polizei will flat beat your a-s if you get out of line,no whining about your rights.i always felt safe on german roads.eating,talking on your cell phone,even drinking a beverage would get you a stiff fine.fifth,all german children have to go to driving classes which last 18months usually.the reason they have fewer accidents on the autobahn and little or no speed limit is because there drivers are better.lastly,this is the best part.when you turn 80 years old youre done driving,period.Should we make it harder to get a drivers liscence?Yes.
1. Learn to drive manual is a huge one. This should be mandatory for WOMEN and men.
2. If you can't change your own tire, LADIES, you're a sad case. No wonder you're late for your manicure, as I laugh driving by you in the rain calling AAA.
3. Well, I wouldn't want my license too expensive, but expensive enough that not every 16 year old putz can get one.
4. We need police to enforce more than the speed limit. Tailgaters, cell-phone Nazis and the like need to pull over or get on a bus.
5. I agree on classes. AND a re-test EVERY year. I bet a 32 year old adult can't remember most answers on a driver's test now.
6. Under 18, older than 75, take the bus or call a friend (or a cab!). That will help with gas prices.
