Assuming you have no bald patches (your tyre - not you), you should check the depth gauge - a slight rubber bump on the main tread grooves. If your tyre tread is above this then you're fine. Also check for uneven wear, as this could mean tracking problems. Most tyre places will check this for you if you're not confident doing so.
Anyway, you should get a good 20K miles out of a new set of tyres, depending on your driving style.
